Jan 25, 2025 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Subject: Re: PESH Computer Science Contest UIL invitational - Written and Hands on/coding - January 25, 2025 - please send registration by Monday night, Jan 20 so I can put in the pizza order. Late entries accepted, but pizza not guaranteed if I can't get the order changed.
It's time to start collecting entries. Hopefully, you are rejoining us so our contest was already on your radar or you saw the details posted on DFW-CSTA and are ready to register teams.
I will provide scratch paper, scantrons and hardware. You will provide textbook references(0-2), pencils and bottled drink for during the contest.
See the attached flyer and spreadsheet for registration. Fee is still $45/team. Written and coding tests both. Advanced and Novice levels. Using our computers only. PC^2 (reading input file). I have to re-install everything but the plan is intelliJ, eclipse and I think netbeams. I haven't tried PC2 since they replaced my desktop, will update you if I have to change contest software.
In person contest only.(i.e. no virtual option)
I try to run this more like a UIL contest, so only java will be used. One computer / monitor per team. It will be loaded with PC^2 team, intellij, Eclipse and I think netBeams. API will be loaded onto the computer. Please request PRIOR to the event if you want a different IDE. There will NOT be internet access (to help keep it fair so no googling, but also repl,it won't be available). (our school has dropped JCreator Pro - sorry, I can't install it now).
The written scores will be used only for individual placement. That way, a team of only one or two isn't affected as much for the coding portion.
In trying to keep the cost down, I will be ordering 2 slices of pizza per person rather than one pizza per team. If you register two people on a team, I will only order 4 slices for that team. I had a lot of pizza leftover last year which wasted money. I was thinking of raising my fee due to increased cost of pizza. I decided to order pizza differently and hopefully will not need to raise my prices in the future by doing this. What this means is that a last minute additional person is welcome, but I won't promise to have pizza for last minute registrations. I will also have a bottle of water with lunch per student.
Please send registration by one week prior -Mon, Jan 20 so I can finalize the pizza order. If your students have a pizza preference, let me know (just general) so I can order more of that type of pizza. I'm not going to monitor who picks up each type, it's just so I don't order pepperoni only when students only want cheese or sausage. You don't need an exact count or to send a preference at all.
This has never been a problem, but I do limit entries to the number of computers I have available. I use 5 different labs, so I should have plenty of space.
There will be a table at the back of each lab if you want to bring in donuts, but please keep food at those tables. No food should be at the computers (these aren't my labs so I want to help keep them clean).
