Annual Programming Contest
WHEN: Saturday, January 27, 2024 (in person only)
WHERE: IB Building of Plano East (Enter from NW corner that says IB over it) / Building 1
3000 Los Rios Blvd., Plano, Tx 75074 (between Park and Parker)
COST: $45/team
SCHEDULE:
8:00am – 8:25 am Registration / check-in / dry-run (NO INSTALLING OF SOFTWARE)
8:30am – 9:30am Written Test
9:45am – 11:45 am Hands on / Programming Contest
12:15 pm Awards
LIMITATIONS: First 60 teams registered will be accepted.
TESTING: Hands On & Written (Novice and Advanced are from Stacy Armstrong)
EQUIPMENT: PISD computers will be used (1 per team). You do not need to bring any electronics. We will be using JCreator and PC^2. NetBeans & Eclipse will also be available. Access to java api will be provided. No internet access. To avoid delays, no software will be installed the morning of the contest, so please address software concerns ahead of time.
OTHER SUPPLIES: Each team may bring one published reference book, pencils/pens and scratch paper. No hand-written notes or pre-written code is permitted. USB should NOT be used before or during the test. You may copy your solutions onto a USB after the testing has ended. You may copy your code at the end of the test. Each contestant will need to bring #2 pencils for the written test.
TEAMS: consists of 1-3 students all from the same high school.
Divisions offered:
- Novice: any student who has not competed in a prior year as well as being currently enrolled in pre-AP or AP computer science i.e. don’t have more than AP level training.
- Advanced: everyone else
The team will compete in the category of the highest level team member. Written test will be based on the individual’s level.
FOOD: Pizza and a bottle of water will be provided for lunch.
AWARDS: Top four teams in each division of the programming contest will receive a trophy. The individuals on the first place teams will also receive medals. Top six individuals in each division of the UIL written test will receive medals. Written and coding scores will NOT be combined.
REGISTRATION: Please email your teams, division and individuals before the end of the day on Fri January 19 , 2024 to ann.horton@pisd.edu(need time to order pizza, but will accept later without guarantee of pizza). Please submit the attached spreadsheet.
